The spring 2024 Economic Policy Panel hybrid meeting took place in Stockholm, hosted and supported by the National Bank of Belgium on 4 and 5 April. The studies on agenda focused on Artificial Intelligence and the Economy.

The invited policy session of the 79th Economic Policy panel meeting featured Daron Acemoglu of MIT presenting new analysis of claims about the supposedly large macroeconomic implications of advances in generative artificial intelligence. Using a task-based approach to assessing AI’s effects on productivity, his study concludes that the impact on GDP is likely to be modest.
